Locations Lat 7° 55' 00" S Long 147° 45' 00" E Hercules Bay is located on the north coast of New Guinea. The western edge of Hercules Bay borders Bau village and Bau Island (Bau Islet). Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Morobe Rural LLG, Huon District of Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). To the south is the provincial border between Morobe Province and Oro Province. B-26 "Yeah!" 40-1421 Pilot Nicholson ditched January 7, 1943 two missing drown in aircraft P-39 Airacobra Pilot Magre crashed June 16, 1942 remains buried at Bau village and later recovered remains missing P-38 Lightning Pilot Love crashed July 13, 1943 in the vicinity of Hercules Bay near the Mambare River References Pub. 164 Sailing Direction (Enroute) New Guinea (1994) page 207 "Bau Islet (7°53'S., 147°43'E), 22m high, and Tauwara Islet, 12.2m high, both wooded, lie about 6 and 9 miles, respectively, SSE f Cape Waria." A shoal, with a depth of 11m, lies about 3.5 miles E of Bau Islet. A depth of 3m, and a reef which dries 1.8m, lie about 1.5 miles ENE and 1 mile SE, respectively of Tauwara Islet."
