Location
Lat 6° 13' 0S Long 155° 33' 0E  Arawa is located near Kieta on the eastern coast of Bougainville Island in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (Bougainville Province) in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Also known as "Arawa Town".

Wartime History
During early 1942 occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945.

American missions against Arawa
December 6, 1943–June 1, 1944

Today
During the 1990s "Bougainville Crisis" Arawa was largely destroyed by rebels.

Kieta Peace Memorial
Dedicated in 2003, memorial for the end of the Bougainville Crisis of the 1990s. The memorial is shaped like a globe, with (inoperative) guns stuck into the concrete as a symbol of the peace and disarmament. The guns were later removed by locals.
