Background
The 28th Composite Group (28th CG) was assigned to the 11th Air Force (11th AF) in Alaska. Later designated the 28th Bombardment Group (28th BG) until the end of the Pacific War. On August 4, 1946 designed as 28th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. Finally, designated the 28th Strategic Bombardment Wing.

36th Bombardment Squadron (36th BS)
The 36th Bombardment Squadron (26th BS).

On February 9, 1942 transfers from Elmendorf Field to Kodiak Airfield (Fort Greeley).

On May 4, 1943 transfers to Amchitka Airfield.

77th Bombardment Squadron (77th BS)
On January 15, 1941 activated as part of the 42nd Bombardment Group (42nd BG) at Salt Lake City in Utah. On June 4, 1941 assigned to Boise, Idaho. On December 29, 1941 assigned to Elmendorf Field in Alaska. On January 2, 1942 assigned to the 28th Composite Group (28th CG). On May 30, 1942 operated from Umnak. On October 3, 1942 operates from Adak. On July 22, 1943 operates from Attu. On September 11, 1943 Amchitka. On February 11, 1944 returns to Attu.
