RAN B Type Fairmile Motor Launch 65 Tons AWM August 20, 1945 |
Ship History Built at Greenpoint Naval Boatyard at Sydney. Delivered to the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) as B Type Fairmile Motor Launch ML818 (ML 818). On the stern was "818". Wartime History During 1945 operated off Bougainville. On August 20, 1945 off Kahili (Buin) on southern Bougainville a Japanese Daihatsu landing barge carrying a Japanese Army envoy for Lt. General Masatane Kanda, commander of the 17 Army was escorted by ML 818 to HMAS Lithgow (J206) where they were embarked and transported to Empress Augusta Bay where they disembarks at Torokina for a meeting at headquarters 2 Corps to discuss the surrender of the Japanese forces on southern Bougainville. Fate On August 30, 1947 this vessel was sold as war surplus at Brisbane for the sum of 675 £. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
