Location Eastern Samar Province spans the eastern portion of Samar Island in the Eastern Visayas (Region VIII) in the Philippines. Also known as Western Samar Province. To the southwest is Leyte Island and to the south borders Leyte Gulf. Wartime History During the Battle of Leyte Gulf was one of three related actions that comprised the Battle for Leyte Gulf including the Battle of Surigao Strait, Battle Off Samar and Battle off Cape Engano. Guiuan (Guian, Guinan) Location Lat 11° 1' 60N Long 125° 43' 29E Guiuan is located at an elevation of 45' / 13m above sea level on the southeast of Samar Island. Guiuan Airfield (Samar Airfield) Built by US Navy Seabees, abandoned after the war. Ngolos Location Lat 10° 57' 24N Long 125° 49' 8E Ngolos is located on the southeastern tip of Samar Island. Navy 3149 Base Navy 3149 Base was located in Ngolos, this was the site of a large U.S. Navy (USN) base during late 1944 until the end of the Pacific War and disused since. Contribute
