Location Lat 9° 28' 7S Long 159° 58' 8E Barana village is located at an elevation of 1154' / 351m on the western edge of The Gifu between Hill 31 and Hill 27 to the west of Hill 35 (Japanese Memorial) and Mount Austen on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Also known as Mbarana village. Prewar No village existed at this location. Wartime History During World War II, the area that is today Barana village was part of the Battle of The Gifu during December 15, 1942 to January 23, 1943. Today During the 1960s, Barana village (Mbarana) was established at this location as a small community at the end of the Wright Road. Barana Village Museum (Barana Museum) Since the 1990s, Barana villagers have collected and displayed World War II relics at this location to show to tourists visiting the area. Sometimes, they sell relics to tourists or request payment for taking photographs. The collection varies based on what has been sold to tourists. Today managed by Mr. Willie Bessi. Contribute
