Location La 4° 22' 60S Long 152° 16' 60E Bitagalip is located on the Gazelle Peninsula on New Britain. Also spelled Bitagarlup incorrectly in wartime documents. To the southwest was Tobera Airfield and to the southeast is Bitapaka (Bita Paka). Between 1884 until September 1914 part of Deutsch Neu Guinea (German New Guinea). Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the New Britain District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in East New Britain Province of Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar Bitagalip Mission was established at this location. Wartime History Occupied by the Japanese during January 1942 until September 1945. P-40N Kittyhawk Serial Number NZ3186 Pilot Grubb crashed January 22, 1944, remains recovered Contribute
