Still in use today as Daly Waters Airport. Wartime History During the early months of 1942, Daly Waters Airfield was used by the U.S. Army Air Force as a way point airfield on the "Brereton Route" for B-17 Flying Fortresses flying between Australia to Java and as a staging base for planed flying from Cloncurry Airfield bound for Darwin area airfields. In February 1942, upgraded as an RAAF operational air base.
