Background
On May 9, 1944 the 106th Reconnaissance Squadron (106th RS) was redesignated as the 100th Bombardment Squadron (Medium) in the 42nd Bombardment Group (42nd BG) "The Crusaders" in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF).

Wartime History
On August 6, 1944 moves to Hollandia in western New Guinea with a detachment operating from Sansapor Airfield in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA).

On September 3, 1944 three B-25 strafers took off on a mission to attack targets of opportunity around New Britain. Over Kalai Plantation damaged by small arms fire was B-25H Mitchell 43-4513 pilot Captain Charles W. Wolfendale and force landed at Talasea Airfield with the crew surviving unhurt.

On September 14, 1944 the entire squadron moves to Sansapor Airfield. On February 22, 1945 a B-25 detachment begins operating from Morotai with the rest of the squadron remaining at Sansapor Airfield.

On March 15, 1945 moves to Puerto Princesa Airfield on Palawan Island in the Philippines. On March 22, 1945 the B-25 detachment on Morotai ceases operation and joins the rest of the squadron at Puerto Princesa Airfield until the end of the Pacific War.

Postwar
On December 11, 1945 inactivated. On May 24, 1946 redesignated as 106th Bombardment Squadron (Light) and assigned to the Air National Guard (ANG).
