Dennis Letourneau   Father & Son Travel to Solomons

In July, 1999 my father and I visited the Solomon Islands and Tarawa Atoll, spending about five days in Honiara, five days in Munda and two days on Tarawa. My father had served in the peacetime Canadian forces in the late 50/60s and had obtained a degree in military history.

He had always wanted to visit the Pacific battle sites and so the trip was the result of a few years of saving up (Canada isn't exactly next door to the Solomons), and it took us to Guadalcanal, with a flight up the "slot" to Munda, then back to Honiara and on to Tarawa (via Fiji) before returning to Canada.

As a visitor to your website, I greatly appreciate the generosity of those who have shared their stories and photos with the hundreds of internet visitors who would like to travel to these locations but are unable to do so.  I hope that others will enjoy these photos as much as I have enjoyed looking through the other images on your site.
