2nd Lt. William H. Melville in uniform
Born in Shanghai, China and grew up in Minneapolis, MN then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) in 1940 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant at Luke Field in Arizona in April 1943 and sent overseas to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) in August 1943. On October 28, 1943 took off piloting P-39Q Airacobra 42-19959 and went Missing In Action (MIA) over New Guinea.
