Location Lat 21.4° N Long 157.9° W Aiea is on Oahu in Hawaii. To the south is Pearl Harbor and to the southeast is Honolulu. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Territory of Hawaii. Today located in Hawaii in the United States. Fort Shafter Fort Shafter was completed by 1907 Fort Shafter is the oldest U.S. military base on Oahu. During 1921 until 1941, Fort Shafter served as an anti-aircraft artillery post. On December 7, 1941, the Coast Artillery batteries established gun positions on the parade ground and sustained the only casualties at Fort Shafter. Even today is virtually identical to the way it looked during the Pacific War. Richardson Hall (Pineapple Pentagon) During World War II, the U.S. Army Pacific Headquarters was located at Richardson Hall that was affectionately nicknamed the "Pineapple Pentagon". In this building, the U.S. Army drafted the invasion of Okinawa and Japan. Lt. General Walter Short's House Prewar, the eighth house on Palm Circle Drive was the residence of the U.S. Army General Short. After the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941 both Short and Kimmel were convicted of "dereliction of duty" after a military trial at Fort Shafter. Information Center During 1941, Fort Shafter Information Center was located near General Short's house. On December 7, 1941 in the morning it was at this location were the radar report of approaching airplanes was received, and disregarded as the report was assumed to be the scheduled delivery flight of B-17 Flying Fortresses arriving from California. In fact, the radar had spotted the incoming first wave of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and Oahu.
