Click For EnlargementThe 70th Dokuritsu Dai Shijugo Chutai (70th Independent Squadron or 70th Independent Flying Squadron or 70th Independent Command Squadron) was part of the 7th Hikoshida of the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF).

Equipped with the Type 100 Command Reconnaissance Aircraft / Ki-46 Dinah, the unit operated from Koepang Airfield on West Timor and was tasked with performing reconassiance missions including the Northern Territory and Western Australia in Australia.

On August 17, 1943 lost was Ki-46-II Dinah 2273 pilot Lt. Saburo Shinohara with observer Lt. Hideo Ura shot down onto Bathurst Island.

On July 20, 1944 lost was Ki-46-II Dinah 3059 pilot Lt. Kiyoshi Izuka with observer Lt. Hisao Itoh shot down by Spitfires near Truscott in Western Australia. This Dinah was the last Japanese plane shot down over the mainland of Australia and the only Japanese aircraft shot down over Western Australia.
