Ship History Built at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in Philadelphia, PA. Laid down January 25, 1941 as an Iowa Class Battleship. Launched December 7, 1943 as USS Wisconsin (BB-64). Commissioned April 16 1944 in the U.S. Navy (USN) with Captain Earl E. Stone in command. Wartime History During February 1945, participated in the bombarding Iwo Jima in support of the U.S. Marine Corps landing. Today Displayed at the Battleship Museum USS Wisconsin in Norfolk, Virginia.
