Wartime History
Entered service August 4, 1942. Assigned to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 5.

On July 23-24, 1943. while patrolling Blacket Strait with PT-154 and PT-155, west of Vila on Kolombangara Island, the group encountered three barges sank one and chased the others back to their base. Afterwards, they sighted three destroyers, but they escaped before the PT boats could reach firing postiions.

Sinking History
On August 1, 1943 at dusk, eighteen Japanese aircraft made an air raid against Rendova PT Boat Base (Lumbari Island / Todd City) off Rendova Island. A bomb hit PT-117 and PT-164 at dock, destroying both PT-Boats and killing two men.
