Ship History Nanyei Maru was a two masted vessel. Also known as Nanei Maru. used as a seaplane tender for Japanese flying boats. During December 1940 operated from Dili Harbor to service Japanese flying boats flying an experimental flight route for air service between Palau and Dili on Portuguese Timor (East Timor). On January 22, 1941 arrived at Dili Harbor the day before the third flying boat flight to test the route. On January 23, 1941 serviced Kawanishi H6K2-L Flying Boat "Sazanami" J-BFOY that landed at Dili Harbor to test the route. Sinking History During December 1941 after the start of the Pacific War, this vessel was bombed and strafed by Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and damaged with the crew abandoning the ship and leaving it adrift. Later, towed to Dili Harbor and abandoned into shallow water. Shipwreck During late September 1945, the stern of the ship remained above water and was photographed by the Australian Army.
