Sinking History
On February 17, 1944 during "Operation Hailstone" Hokuyo Maru was anchored in Truk Lagoon. Attacked by U.S. Navy (USN) carrier aircraft from USS Essex and USS Bunker Hill and hit by two 1,000 lb. bombs causing it to explode and sink.

Discovery
Discovered during 1973. There is little marine growth because of the depth of 160' to the wheck and 200' to the bottom. Limited exploration of this wreck has occurred.
