Aerial view of beached Japanese transports near Bunani Point on Guadalcanal
First bombed by SBD Dauntless dive bombers when three Japanese transport ships beached on October 15, 1942. The next day, B-17s finish them off. In the forefround is the oil slick of Sasako Maru that is already sunk. The Azumasan Maru is getting hit by another B-17's stick of bombs. That night, she slipped off the reef and sunk in 100-200' of water. The beached Kyusyu Maru is obscured by the smoke from Azumasan Maru.
