Location
Gulf of Tonkin borders the northern coast of Vietnam (French Indochina) and the southern coast of China including Guangxi Province, Guangdong Province (Leizhou Peninsula) and Hainan Island. Also known as the Tonkin Gulf or Tongking Gulf.

Wartime History
The Gulf of Tonkin was used by Japanese during the Pacific War. During 1943-1945 attacked by American aircraft targeting Japanese shipping.
