Location
South China Sea is considered a is a marginal sea, part of the Pacific Ocean that encompasses roughly 1.4 million square miles. Spans from Karimata Strait, Strait of Malacca (Malacca Strait) and Strait of Taiwan. Borders China to the north, Taiwan (Formosa) to the northeast, Vietnam (French Indochina) and Cambodia to the west, Philippine Sea to the east, Philippines to the southeast, Malaysia to the west and Borneo to the south. Also known as "West Philippine Sea".

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, the South China Sea was used by the Japanese and Allied warships and vessels.
