Location
Poha and the Poha River are located on the north coast of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Borders Iron Bottom Sound to the north. To the east is Kokumbona.
Wartime History
During 1942, occupied by the Japanese Army. On January 23, 1943, U. S. Army forces advance up the coast to Poha aided by aerial support from P-39 Airacobras and U. S. Marine Corps (USMC) aircraft.
Japanese Type 92B Artillery Tractors
Several Japanese Army artillery tractors were abandoned on the western side of the Poha River. Peter Flahavin adds: "They must have been abandoned for lack of fuel. It looked like they had been disabled by the Japanese with grenades."
