Poha is located on the north coast of Guadalcanal bordering Iron Bottom Sound. The Poha River mouth empties at this location. To the east is Kokumbona.
During 1942, occupied by the Japanese. On January 23, 1943, US Army forces, aided by P-39 Airacobras and USMC
aircraft push up the Guadalcanal coast to take
Kokumbona and the Poha.
Japanse Artillery Tractors
Located on the west side of the Poha River, abandoned by the Japanese. Peter Flahavin adds: "They must have been abandoned here for lack of fuel. It looked like they had been disabled by the Japanese with grenades."
