Location
Gold Ridge is located fifteen miles inland from the north coast of Guadalcanal at an elevation of 2,800'.
Prewar
At this location, a strain of gold was found at this location. A European prospector settled the area and built a five bedroom house at this location Prior to the Pacific War, the prospector fled.
Coastwatcher Camp at Gold Ridge
Coastwaters Hay and D. S. McFarland setup a camp at the house and occupied in early May, 1942 after japanese landed at Tulagi. Later, they were joined by F. M. Campbell and his two teenage sons, Jack and Pat. They were discovered on July 12 by A6M2-N Rufe floaplanes and strafed, causing the group to retreat inland to Sutakiki.
