Location
Shirinki Island
is located to the west of Paramushir
Island in the Kurile Islands. At the center is the volcano Renge (Renge-Take) with an elevation of 749m. To the east is the Shirinki Strait (Luzhin Strait). To the west is the Sea of Okhotsk. In Russian known as Antsiferov (Анциферова). In Japanese Shirinki-tō (志林規島). The Japanese name is derrived from the Ainu language meaning "place of tall waves". Prewar and during World War II, part of Japan. Postwar, part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Today located in Sakhalin Oblast in Russia.
