Location
Araido Island
is located in the Kurile Islands located to the north of Paramushir
Island, and west of the southern tip of Kamchatka. Also known as Atlasov Island. Prewar and during World War II, part of Japan. Postwar, part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Today located in Sakhalin Oblast in Russia.
Wartime History
On June 9, 1945 B-25s fly a diversionary strike mission over Araido.
