During October 1942, Hughes, Wallace and Bordner crew members of B-26 40-1474 arrived at the abandoned village and found a doctor boy agreed to let him build a hut and gave him space to plant a garden. The three crew survived by subsistance eating caterpillars, grubs, toads, snakes and lizards. During February 1943, the three departed for the hideout of Pvt James A. Stokie, VX27259.
