Lat 2° 36' 0S Long 150° 50' 60E  Panapae is located to the east of Kavieng. Wartime spelling "Panapae". Prewar, developed into a coconut palm plantaiton growing copra.

Wartime History
During late January 1942, occupied by the Japanese. Panapae was occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the war until September 1945.

Japanese built airfield neutralized from the air by Allied attacks.

Ditched Japanese Tanks
On the beach are several corroded Japanese tanks remain on the coral reef, driven there at the time of surrender so they could not be used by the Allies. Rotted rubber tires can be seen on the wheels despite the pounding surf and salt.
