    Dampier Strait West New Britain Province¬†Papua New Guinea (PNG)

The Dampier Strait connects the Bismarck Sea to the north with the Solomon Sea to the south. Borders Umboi Island (Rooke, Rook) to the west and West New Britain to the east. Borders the Vitiaz Strait. Today, the Dampier Strait spans both Morobe Province and West New Britain Province. Named after British explorer William Dampier who navigated the Strait in 1700 aboard HMS Roebuck.
