3° 22' 60S Long 153° 18' 0E Boang Island is part of the Tanga Island Group, located to the north
of New Ireland.
On December 29, 1943 Boang Island was reconnoitered by coastwatcher Harry
Murray and members of the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) and U.S. Navy (USN) as a site for a a potential
airfield but was never developed.
