American Casualties on "Maggot Beach" on the beach at Buna
This photo was not published in the United States until published in LIFE Magazine on February 15, 1943. It was controversial as the first published photo depicting American dead. The wartime captions describe the location as 'Maggot Beach' possibly the beach off Buna Village (Old Village) or Buna Government Station. The casualties are from the 128th Infantry, 32nd Division, Company F and E advancing on Buna.
