Wartime History
American troops of the 25th Infantry Division, 27th Infantry Regiment had cut Highway 8 near Pamienta. On January 29-30, 1945 the Japanese 'Omoro Detachment' was advancing in a column over Route 8 toward Monoz. Overnight, at 2000 both units were unaware of each other and collided and a firefight ensued. By the morning, the Americans had destroyed most of the column: 8 tanks, 8 prime movers, 4 tractors, 5 trucks and 8 105mm guns. Only four tanks managed to get to Monoz.
