Guimaras Island is located to the southeast of Panay Island.

2nd Lt. Douglas MacArthur, at age 23 as a fresh graduate of West Point, was assigneed to Iloilo as the head of the company of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They constructed roads and the Sto. Rosario Wharf, presently named MacArthur's Wharf, which are still in use today.

Wartime History
Occupied by the Japanese during 1942. In 1945, the US Army landed on Guimaras and liberated the island.

Capital of the province on the northwest coast, across the Iloilo Strait from Iloilo.
