    San Bernardino Strait  Philippines

The San Bernardino Strait is located in the Philippines, connecting the Samar Sea to the Philippine Sea. To the north is the Bicol Peninsula on southeastern Luzon and to the south is Samar Island.

Wartime History
During December 10-11, 1941 Itsukushima laid 300 Type 93 sea mines into the San Bernardino Strait.

During the Battle of Leyte Gulf, during the night of October 24-25, 1944 the Japanese Navy's "Central Force" made a night passage through San Bernardino Strait. Shortly after dawn the Japanese opened fire on TG 77.4 escort carriers and escorts.
