Province located in eastern Mongolia, bordering Manchuria (Manchukuo) to the east and China to the south.

Wartime History
During May to September 1939, a border dispute known as the Battle of Khalkhin Gol / Nomonhan Incident happened between the Japanese and Manchukuoans versus Mongolian and Russians.

During August 1945 "August Storm" Soviet-Mongolian forces attacked the Japanese Army in Manchuria (Manchukuo). After the war, Stalin handed Southern Mongolia to China according to the Yalta Conference.
