Location
Eoon-Epje Island is a small island to the south of Taroa Island.
Wartime History
During the war, the Japanese
built a 700' by 20' causeway from Tarao Island to Eoon-Epje Island. A narrow-gauge railroad track spanned the causeway and terminated on southern Taroa.
Beheading Place
In the middle of Eoon-epje is a large bomb crater from
an exploded ammunition dump and a concrete block which has been called
"the beheading place". Oral traditions have it that this
was the location where the Japanese executed US and Marshallese prisoners.
Today
One of the pillars of the causeway is still visible today.
