    Maug Island  Mariana Islands

Maug Island is a small island. To the south is Saipan.

Wartime History
In June of 1945, an unauthorised landing was initiated by Lt. Col. Chalfant who sent a number of USMC MP battalions to Maug Island to mop up, but were unable to find any Japanese. There was evidence of Japanese gardens and a radio tower shelled by the USN.
