    Jilin Province (Kirin Province)  Manchuria (Manchukuo) | China
Location
Jilin Province (Kirin Province) is located in Manchuria in northeast China. Borders North Korea and Russia to the east, Heilongjiang Province to the north, Liaoning Province to the south, and Inner Mongolia to the west. Previously known as Kirin Province before standardization to pinyin. Between 1932–1945 part of Manchuko (Empire of Manchukuo). Today part of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The provincial is Changchun (Ch'angch'un formally Hsinking).

Wartime History
In 1932, present-day Jilin Province was part of Manchukuo. Known as the "Kirin Region".

Postwar
During August 1945, Soviet forces entered Manchuria and gave the Chinese communists control over most of the area. Heilongjiang became the first province to be completely controlled by the Chinese communists and Harbin the first major city to be controlled by them. From Manchuria, the communists were able to conduct the initial phases of the Chinese Civil War.

Jilin Province
Hsinking (Changchun, Chang-chung)  former capital of Manchukuo.
Jilin 吉林市 (Chi-lin, Kirin)  formerly the old capital of Manchukuo includes Kirin Airfield (Jilin Airfield).
Paichengtzu (Pai-Ch'eng, Baicheng)  located on the western edge of Jilin Province.
Kungchuling (Gongzhuling)  city south of Hsinking.
