Location Lat 35° 36' 0N Long 140° 7' 0E Chiba is located at an elevation of 6' / 1m above sea level on the northern edge of the Bōsō Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture in the Kantō Region of Honshū in Japan. In Japanese, Chiba means "thousand leaves". Borders Tokyo Bay and Tokyo to the west. Today known as Chiba City and is the provincial capital of Chiba Prefecture. Wartime History During the Pacific War, Hitachi operated a factory at Chiba. Starting in early June 1944 until late July 1944 attacked by B-29s and P-51Ds that neutralized the airfield.
