Lat 28°17′N Long 129°22′E  Amami Ōshima is the largest island in the Amami Islands (Amami-guntō), roughly halfway between Okinawa and Kyūshū. Known to the Americans as "Amami-O-Shima".

Wartime History
During the war, the Japanese Navy maintained an oil storage facility on this island. Also, a seaplane base with a ramp. By May 1945, the island was within range of American fighter based at Ie Shima and bombers elsewhere.
