Location
Bali Island borders the Java Sea to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south. To the west is Java. To the east is Lombok Strait and beyond Lombok Island. To the southeast is Badoeng Strait and beyond Penida Island. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Bali Province in Indonesia. Wartime History
During the night of February 18, 1942 the Japanese invasion force arrives off Bali. On February 19, 1942 at 2:00am the Japanese begin landing at forces landed at Denpasar on Bali. Afterwards, U.S. aircraft from Java attack the landing force but fail to halt the invasion. Afterwards, the Japanese occupy Bali for the remainder of the Pacific War until the official surrender of Japan.
