    West Papua Province (Papua Barat, West Irian Jaya)  Indonesia

Location
Prewar, during the Pacific War known as Dutch New Guinea. In 1961, after annexation by Indonesia renamed "West Papua" and in 1969, renamed "West Irian" (Irian Barat). During 1973, renamed Irian Jaya (Glorious Irian) during the Suharto administration and also known as "West Irian Jaya". In 2002, renamed "West Papua Province" or Papua Barat in Indoneisa, and divided into three regency (kapubaten): Sorong, Manokwari and Fak-Fak. By 2010, further divided into ten regency (kapubaten) and Sorong (Sorong City), an autonomous city (kota). West Papua includes the westernmost portion of New Guinea. Borders Papua Province (Irian Jaya) to the east.
