coast of Burma, bordering the Bay of Bingal, 90 miles south of
the border with India. Today, known as Sittwe. Located in the Sittwe District in Rakhine State in Burma (Myanmar).
an invasion in December 1942. Meeting heavy resistance from
entrenched Japanese in bunkers in the Mayu Hills, halting the invasion. Lloyd
was replaced by Lomax. During February 1943, the Japanese counter-attacks,
and in March 1943 the British fully withdrew.
