Matchin Bay is a large, deep sheltered bay that borders the Soraken Peninsula on northern Bougainville and Buka Island further to the north.

Wartime History
During early 1942, occupied by the Japanese. Used by the Japanese for the duration of the war until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945.
