Location
Lat 6° 46' 0S Long 155° 24' 0E Mamagata is located on the coast of southwest Bougainville Island. Also known as "Mamagota" or "Memagata". Inland is the Mamagota junction with the Buin Road.
Prewar
Mamagata Mission was established at this location by the Catholic church.
Wartime History
During early 1942, occupied by the Japanese and used as a supply area. During early June 1945, the Australian Army the 58th Battalion and 59th Battalion neared Mamagota junction and occupied the location on June 5, 1945.
