Location Lat 31° 55' 60S Long 115° 49' 60E Perth is located at an elevation of 150' / 45m above sea level on the west coast of Western Australia in Australia. Perth is the state capital of Western Australia. Borders the Swan River and Fremantle Harbor to the south and beyond Fremantle. Wartime History During the Pacific War, Perth was an important staging base for Allied submarines, warships and cargo vessels. U.S. Navy (USN) PatWing 10 operated from Perth with PBY Catalinas until July 1944. Submarine Base, Fremantle-Perth On October 15, 1942 Submarine Base, Fremantle-Perth was established by the U.S. Navy (USN) to support submarine operations from Western Australia. Perth War Cemetery and Annex Established by the Australian Army during 1942. It was used for the burial of those who died of wounds in Hollywood Military Hospital after their return from operational areas, and of others who died from accident or sickness. A number of graves were also brought in from civil and temporary military cemeteries. The cemetery includes 492 graves plus the Perth War Cemetery Netherlands Annex.
