Shemya Island is a two miles by four miles in the Semichi Island Group (Semichi Islands) in the Aleutian Island Chain (Aleutian Islands) in Alaska in the United States. Shemya Island is located 35 miles east of Attu Island. To the west is Nizki Island and Alaid Island.
Japanese forces at one time planned to occupy Shemya, but the landing was called off. After the Allied liberation of Attu Island on May 29, 1943 the U. S. Army landed on Shemya and built Shemya Airfield.
