Technical Information
Background
This weapon was a Vickers design based on the British 2 pounder Mark VIII but used on single and twin mountings, with a 50 round belt. Also known as 40mm / 62 caliber "HI" Type 91 Shiki. Replaced by the 25mm Anti-Aircraft Gun Type 96 (1936).
Wartime History
Some were in service during the Pacific War or installed on land to defend Navy airfields and installations
Production
About 500 guns and 200 mountings were imported from the United Kingdom during 1925 to 1935.
