DC-5 Losses

Post by Anthony J. Mireles »

I have read somewhere that the Japanese Aircraft had attacked airfields around Port Moresby, Papua, New Guinea, on 12 April 1943, destroying several Douglas transport aircraft at Jackson Airdrome. Can anybody provide me with details of this attack, such as number and type of aircraft lost? Were any DC-5 airplanes destroyed in this raid on Jackson Airdrome? Can anyone provide me with details of the loss of DC-5 type aircraft in the Pacific Theater, especially in 1942 and 1943 in the Port Moresby area? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

Tony,

Here are a few DC-5 losses that I'm aware of...

DC-5 VH-CXA (44-83230) : Destroyed on ground during Japanese air raid at Jackson Field on August 17, 1942.
DC-5 VH-CXB (44-83231) : Force landed near Charleville on November 6, 1942. Scrapped post-war.
