Darwin crash 29 April, 1942
A P-40 on take off went out of control and crashed into George's transport
aircraft. He was formerly commander of fighter operations in the Phillippines and was evacuated to Austraila with McCarther. At the time if the accident, he was on an inspection tour of bases in Austraila.

George Transport collision
Duane,
Do you have anything else on this one? What are the AAF serial numbers for the airplanes? What kind of transport? Thanks. Tony Mireles

AAF crash
I have the microfilm AAF Foreign Accident Data Sheet (very incomplete) for this accident; there is no proper report for this accident. The link provided above is a good one for crash reports. Mike Stowe is knowledgable and helpful. Not free, but faster than waiting for one from Maxwell Field. Thanks to all who helped. Still need the AAF serial numbers for these aircraft. Tony Mireles

Re:Serial Numbers
Hi I think you will find these aircraft were USAF not RAAF. Try Peter Dunns site http://www.ozatwar.com for more info on the crash, there is a firsthand account of the accident on there. Cheers Rod

Darwin crash
A little more info.
The P-40 pilot was Bob Hazard. The a/c blew a tire. The transport was
a Lockheed C-40. It was parked, with George and the others standing around it. The pilot was Joe Moore, formerly the C.O. of the 20th Pursuit
Squadron at Clark Field, P.I. I can't find anything on the serial numbers.

That would be AAF as in USAAF.
I'll try Dunn's site. I think he has the serial for the P-40 but not the other airplane. I thought that it might be in error because of the mutliple casualties of the AAF Foreign Accident Data Sheet and the P-40 (single seat) listing on Dunn's site. Thanks. Tony Mireles
Varsity,
Thanks for the additional information.
Again, thanks to all who are helping me.

P-40 crash
Try the NAA in Australia. There is a report along with P-40 serial and other details on the crash

Go to http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/recordsearch.html. Log in as a guest and search for P40.
In there you will find a document on the accident called "Headquarters Allied Air Force - South West Pacific Area - Investigation - Aircraft accident to C40 number 519 and P40 aircraft at Batchelor on 29/4/1942 [Includes Maintenance Inspection Record; 0.75 cm]".
This is available as a digital copy. You should be able to find all the data you are after
