Staff Sergeant Robert Greebull

Post by Edward »

The news reports about the return of Staff Sergeant Robert Greebull's ring to his wife apparently misspelled his name.

"Betty McAleenan, 94, gave her husband Staff Sgt. Robert Greebull of the Wyoming Air National Guard her class ring to take with him as a good luck charm"

It is S/Sgt. Robert E. Griebel

He served as an Assistant Radio Operator / Gunner in the 65th Squadron of the 43rd Bomb Group.

His plane, the B-17E "Naughty But Nice", was shot down by a Japanese night fighter on a mission against Rabaul on 26 June 1943. The sole survivor was the navigator Lt. Jose Holguin.
