Need Plane Number

Post by hennjhn »

A B-24 was shot down over New Guinea on 5/5/44. The plane belonged to the 72nd Bomb Squadron, 5th Bomb Group. One of the crew members is 2nd Lt. Anthony J. Goode who was the navigator on this plane. Could someone please give me the serial number of this plane.

Thank You:

I've been unable to find anything in my own records.

After doing a search for this date on the AAF website's MACR database, it appears 42-110109 of the 5th BG was lost on May 5, 1944 - See MACR 5083.

Not sure if this is the correct one though.

Joe Baugher's website lists B-24J 42-110109 as going down on 05-May-1944 with the 5th Bomb Group. This matches the Army Air Forces website MACR database which states this was the only 5th BG B-24 going down on that date.

Has this been confirmed, or are there any more details on this loss?

SN 42-110109 is correct. I am currently doing some research for The Goode family.
